Day 5: La Suiza to Pejibaye
Date: February 17, 2024
Miles: ~12
Time walking: 8 hours
Difficulty: Fairly easy
7am breakfast call and we left around 8:15am. Toured orchid garden next door. Cute little path.
Walked about 12 miles today as we added on some of tomorrow’s walk so it would not be as long. Today was fairly easy. Started with a gradual descent through sugarcane fields.
Walked short busy road, then more not so busy road. Lots of cyclists, MTB and road. Past our new favorite snack cracker factory.
Through more sugarcane fields, before climbing up gravel road to snack stop, end of section 7. Cute family business with daughter speaking excellent English (she teaches English). Bought section 7 key chain.
Walked over a hanging Bridge with a maximum of 3 people at a time.
Walked past various houses throughout the day
Walked through our biggest town yet, but still small.
Had an interesting transport back to our accommodation for the evening (12 piled into pickup truck).
Arrived at accommodation at 3pm for late lunch
Hung out by the river soaking our feet, and drinking our daily Imperial beer.
Tonight we are sleeping in a 2 platform treehouse located along a river. Our platform has 2 tents on it and one bathroom with separate shower (cold water only) for both levels, a total of 9 people.
Our most uncomfortable accommodation to date. Sleep? Doubtful. Dinner at 6pm. Nice hearty soup (chickpeas, potatoes, carrots, beans)
Day 6: Pejibaye to Río Macho
Date: February 18, 2024
Miles: 14 miles
Time walking: ~ 8 hours
Difficulty: Moderate day. Mostly gravel road with a good stretch of muddy jungle trail and one ascent.
Breakfast at 6:30am. Transferred back to where we ended yesterday and started to hike around 8am. Did about 13/14 miles today. Picked up some blister repair items at local supermercado before starting.
Mostly gravel road with a good stretch of muddy jungle trail but not as bad as the other day. Beautiful scenery. One long climb that had a beautiful view at the top.
Met a man who owns goats to make cheese.
