Green Lion
Construction
Larry volunteered for “construction”, which turned out to be focused on building a concrete block wall around an elementary school. Two meters tall by over 200 meters long, using existing concrete posts, many of which were leaning or had fallen completely, some set in concrete, some just in the ground.

We needed to stabilize posts, build forms for footings, and secure rebar in the footings before pouring concrete for each 7 foot section.

Our team was Dave, a retiree from Minneapolis, Diana from the UK, and Onsee, our local Green Lion leader for construction.

Schedule (Mon - Fri)
It was a bit cooler for the morning shift, but some days were still plenty labor intensive to work up a full on soaking sweat by the end of the shift. Afternoons were worse, but did manage to work in a bit of shade. Pouring concrete was a bit less labor intensive than digging footings. We also did some block making, although many had been made by previous groups.

A crew of ten from The Netherlands joined for our week two. They stayed elsewhere and sort of did their own thing. They wanted to fully focus on putting up the blocks, so we let them take that on, while we worked footings. They were quite motivated, and it was a nice way to see the accomplishment.

The wall did not get completed, but we definitely made a lot of progress in just two weeks.
