Green Lion

Adventure Week

We took advantage of the adventure week which allowed us to stay in our guesthouse, continue most of our meals and enjoy a deeper culture immersion with lots of day trips organized for us:

  • Mekong river cruise

  • Storytelling evening

  • Sunset cruise

  • Rice farm activities*

  • Kuang Si Waterfall*

  • Trekking and Hill Tribe visit (stayed at Mickey's and Ticky's parents house)*

* We enjoyed all the activities but details below from our favorite activities

We needed to stabilize posts, build forms for footings, and secure rebar in the footings before pouring concrete for each 7 foot section.

Our team was Dave, a retiree from Minneapolis, Diana from the UK, and Onsee, our local Green Lion leader for construction.

Schedule (Mon - Fri)

It was a bit cooler for the morning shift, but some days were still plenty labor intensive to work up a full on soaking sweat by the end of the shift. Afternoons were worse, but did manage to work in a bit of shade. Pouring concrete was a bit less labor intensive than digging footings. We also did some block making, although many had been made by previous groups.

A crew of ten from The Netherlands joined for our week two. They stayed elsewhere and sort of did their own thing. They wanted to fully focus on putting up the blocks, so we let them take that on, while we worked footings. They were quite motivated, and it was a nice way to see the accomplishment.

The wall did not get completed, but we definitely made a lot of progress in just two weeks.
